About Us

The Coalition for Access and Equity (CAE) is a non-profit organization founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2021 as a response to the growing disparities in access to education, leadership development, and professional opportunities among underserved communities. It stands as a platform for advocacy, empowerment, and connection, particularly for those historically underrepresented in key sectors.  Originally, formed to save and provide governance to the Watsonville Community Hospital, CAE has since expanded its mission to serving other community hospitals, mentoring youth and young adults, and much more!

Today, at CAE, we dedicate our efforts to providing equitable access and opportunities for underserved populations through education, networking, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives. Our organization offers classes, connections, youth empowerment, leadership programs, and more to foster resilience and confidence in future leaders. We are committed to empowering the next generation of young leaders in civic involvement and leadership by providing knowledge, tools, and opportunities that foster personal growth and confidence, so they can thrive, lead, and drive meaningful change in their communities and beyond.

Founders' Message

At the Coalition for Access & Equity (CAE), we believe leadership is one of the most powerful tools for creating lasting change and that any individual, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status, can be a strong, independent leader. When individuals are given access to mentorship, opportunity, and guidance, they don’t just succeed—they strengthen and uplift entire communities and institutions.

CAE exists to address the inequities that limit access to education, healthcare, and leadership pathways and support those who are foundational to the success of these fields. Too often, talented and driven youth are excluded from the very systems they are needed in most. Our work focuses on closing that gap by cultivating confident, equity-centered leaders and building pipelines that prepare them to serve in schools, hospitals, and community organizations.

We are especially committed to supporting the next generation of leaders—individuals who understand governance, accountability, and the responsibility institutions have to the communities they serve. By investing early in leadership development, we help ensure that tomorrow’s decision-makers reflect the diversity, values, and lived experiences of the populations they lead.

None of this work is possible without the generosity of our donors, partners, and supporters. Your investment is more than a donation—it is a commitment to equity, access, and long-term impact.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for standing with us as we work to build a more just and equitable future.

With gratitude,

Jian Zhang and An Ruda
